One of the holiday phrases I remember from my childhood was, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause." (If you don't know the reference, look up the movie.) Well, this year what was told the young Virginia is true. I received an early Christmas present. A five-star review courtesy of Readers' Favorite for Hatchling's Vengeance, book four of the Dragshi Chronicles.

Here’s a teaser of what the reviewer said:

The way the story evolves is a delight and piques the reader's interest so that they will keep reading just to find out what is going to happen and if good triumphs over evil.

the story lingered long afterward in my mind and thoughts … a lovely, exciting read.

Go to Reader's Favorite blog for the full review. In the meantime I’m jumping with joy.

Happy Holidays and Good Reviews to All.

Cover Reveal - First Change

Designing a cover. Do you want a tantalizing scene of the fantasy word? Your name is larger print that the title? Or a half-naked hunk?

These are a few thoughts that went into the design of the cover for First Change: Legends From The Eyrie.

What made things more challenging was that this was the fifth volume set in the world of the dragshi. For those who haven't followed them, the dragshi are more than just a man or woman, but two beings—one human, the other a  dragon. The pair share one body in space and time and are able to change forms with the other at will. But be warned, a dragon form comes with more than just the freedom of the sky.

Unlike the four full-length novels which recounted the tales of the trader girl Anastasia and the Dragshi Lord Branin Llewlyn, First Change is a collection of several novellas and short stories. None of the tales are related other than they all take place in the world of the dragon shifters. The events take place in different eras with different characters.

A cover design could use elements from all the stories or from just one. In the end, Fire and Ice was used as the basis for the cover design. The setting of the Nerelan equivalent of the Far East, a beautiful empress, and the green token that determined her fate were the elements selected. And so without more ado, here is the cover for First Change: Legends From the Eyrie.

Four Stars For Hatchling's Vengeance

The clouds are gone, the nighttime sky is clear. It's time for stars. Four of them for Hatchling's Vengeance

Here's a snippit from the review.

Henderson "puts the reader right in the middle of the action, painting pictures vividly for their imagination. ...an entertaining tale with plenty of dragon fun!"

Blurb:  Vengeance takes many paths. The cult leader, the Parant, means to have his. No matter how long it takes or how many innocents die, he will kill all dragon shifters. For those who the Parant commands, will vengeance yield to love and provide a path to redemption? Or will retribution decree the punishment for past acts be death?

For the last two unattached dragon shifters, their only weapons to save their kind are their swords—and love. Sometimes not even dragon fire and talons are enough to overcome the mind control wielded by the one called—the Parant.

Dragon shifter and follower alike stand on the knife’s edge with happiness and loss fighting to control the balance.

About Helen:
Helen Henderson has written fiction as long as she could remember. Her heritage reflects the contrasts of her Gemini sign. She is a descendent of a coal-miner's daughter and an aviation flight engineer. This dichotomy shows in her writing which crosses genres from historical adventures and westerns to science fiction and fantasy.

In the realm of fantasy, she is the author of two series: the Windmaster novels and the Dragshi Chronicles. Henderson describes herself as a tour guide to the stars, the Old West, and worlds of imagination and invites you to journey with her. The trip begins at helenhenderson-author.blogspot.com.
