Designing
a cover. Do you want a tantalizing scene of the fantasy word? Your name
is larger print that the title? Or a half-naked hunk?
These are a few thoughts that went into the design of the cover for First Change: Legends From The Eyrie.
What
made things more challenging was that this was the fifth volume set in
the world of the dragshi. For those who haven't followed them, the dragshi are more than just a man
or woman, but two beings—one human, the other a dragon. The pair share
one body in space and time and are able to change forms with the other
at will. But be warned, a dragon form comes with more than just the
freedom of the sky.
Unlike the four full-length novels which recounted the tales of the trader girl Anastasia and the Dragshi Lord Branin Llewlyn, First Change is
a collection of several novellas and short stories. None of the tales
are related other than they all take place in the world of the dragon
shifters. The events take place in different eras with different
characters.
A
cover design could use elements from all the stories or from just one.
In the end, Fire and Ice was used as the basis for the cover design. The
setting of the Nerelan equivalent of the Far East, a beautiful empress,
and the green token that determined her fate were the elements
selected. And so without more ado, here is the cover for First Change: Legends From the Eyrie.

About Helen:
Helen Henderson has written fiction as long as she could remember. Her heritage reflects the contrasts of her Gemini sign. She is a descendent of a coal-miner's daughter and an aviation flight engineer. This dichotomy shows in her writing which crosses genres from historical adventures and westerns to science fiction and fantasy.
In the realm of fantasy, she is the author of two series: the Windmaster novels and the Dragshi Chronicles. Henderson describes herself as a tour guide to the stars, the Old West, and worlds of imagination and invites you to journey with her. The trip begins at helenhenderson-author.blogspot.com.

Hatchling's Mate Flies Out
From their birth, it was expected that the only two children born to the
dragon shifters would marry. Unlike his female counterpart, no dragons
sang a welcome at Talann’s birth and years later, although Lexii’s dragon
twin had awakened, there was still no sign of Talann’s.
Haldric acquired his hatred of shifters not only from his relative, Lady Broch, the bandit leader who died at the hands of the dragshi, but his uncle Waljan, known to his followers as the Parant. The cult leader possessed the ability to turn men and women into his willing slaves. Haldric means to use his uncle’s power to bend Lexii to his own will. A dangerous plan for the Parant is as likely to turn on friend as a foe. Glyn, Lexii’s bodyguard, fights the growing attraction to Talann—and to keep hidden the secret no one could never learn.
